
CDL TRAINING

What Is It?
To become a commercial truck driver an individual is required to acquire a CDL; (Commercial Driver's License). The U.S. Department of Transportation; Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration division sets guidelines for CDL drivers. Each state, in turn, adds additional requirements to meet the State requirements.
Training
At SunCoast Trucking Academy, the student will learn:

How to complete log book management

Understand general Haz Mat information
-
Perform pre-trip inspections (PTI)
-
How to drive a tractor trailer on the range - involving backing skills
-
Road Training complete with shifting a non-synchronized transmission.
We conduct all skills tests at our facility.
How To Get A CDL

A knowledge based written test (Learners Permit)

A driver must score at least 80% accuracy on the knowledge test (completed at the DMV)
Skills and driving test which include:

Pre-Trip Inspection ( Safety Inspection)

Perform Basic Skills Test (backing Maneuvers)

Road Test (50 min. road test)

Conducted here at STA, we have several Examiners on staff.
